Serena Williams Wins Her Fifth Wimbledon Championship

WIlliams Celebrating her Fifth Wimbledon Title

Serena Williams, 30, won her fifth Wimbledon title today in London, England. This was Williams eighth trip to the finals winning her in her last 3. From the first minute a determined Williams beat Agnieszka Radwanska in the first set in a commanding 6-1 manner.

This puts Williams ahead of her sister, Venus, and tied in second for most wins in a Wimbledon finals.

Williams came into the tournament as the sixth ranked tennis player in the world, not a huge favourite but she has proven in the past that it doesn’t matter what she is ranked she will always give 100%.

Williams beat the third ranked Agnieszka Radwanska in 3 sets, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.

Coming back from a disappointing 2011 season, where Williams had two operations, dropped to 175th in the rankings, and had blood clots in her lungs.

“Coming here and winning today is amazing,” she said. “It’s been an unbelievable journey for me.”

WIlliams was unstoppable getting almost 20 aces, averaging a serve speed of 107 km/h(2km/h faster then Radwanska’s fastest serve).

Caught off guard by Radwanska’s second set resurgence, many believed Williams would have a much harder time the rest of the game. That was not the case here as Williams dominated the third set winning it 6-2. Williams had a lost 20 more points won then her opponent Radwanska.

Radwanska was not her usual self and could easily be seen through the match. Dealing with many sinus and throat issues Radwanska even cancelled her news conference friday night.

Radwanska was the first Polish player to reach the Grand Slam final since 1939.
