NBA Trade Rumors: Howard Heading to the Lakers Not the Nets?

It has recently been reported that the Los Angeles Lakers  have once again emerged as the favorites to land the prize possession, Dwight Howard.

The Lakers have been in talks with the Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic on a possible deal that will would send Dwight Howard to the Lakers and have Andrew Bynum sent to the Houston Rockets with the Rockets willing to give up numerous draft picks and cap-friendly contracts to Orlando.

Houston would more than likely be absorbing the contract of Jason Richardon’s three year $18.6 million he has left on his contract. Though the Lakers have mentioned they would be willing to absorb Richardson’s contract if they are acquiring Howard.

If the Lakers were to acquire Dwight Howard, it could put them as heavy favorites to not only come out of the Western Conference but also contend for a championships. A sixth championship for Kobe tying him with Michael Jordan.

The Lakers starting lineup would stand at this:

  1. Steve Nash
  2. Kobe Bryant
  3. Metta World-Peace
  4. Pau Gasol
  5. Dwight Howard

Talk about MVP galore, throw in a few defensive player of the year awards, some all-star appearances and you have yourself a starting five that can compete day in and day out with any team in the league. No matter how many of the same type players the Heat keep signing.

Overall if the Lakers are to somehow pull of this miracle trade and get Dwight Howard in a Laker uniform, it would not only shock the entire NBA world, it would solidify the Lakers as true title contenders.
